Hanukkah

Hanukkah is a great holiday and my teacher Mrs.Neft is Jewish so she celebrates Hanukkah. They have a candle holder called a Menorah that holds 8 candles and 1 servant candle in the middle. Some children get gifts on the 8 days of Hanukkah. Hanukkah takes place on December 21st. And guess what? Tomorrow Hanukkah starts! I don't know what I'm gonna get Mrs.Neft yet for her Birthday. Mrs.Neft can't wait til Hanukkah starts tomorrow! I'm so excited for Mrs.Neft and her Family. And that's my story on Hanukkah!

Hey people. Yesterday was pajama day and it was really fun a lot of kids wore footy pajamas some kids wore the same footy pajamas  like Nellie wore cupcake footy pajamas and other kids wore them to. But I Yasmin wore a nightgown and pants.  Even miss Lupo wore pajamas and a blue robe!(SHE DID NOT WHERE SHOES SHE WORE SOCKS) We do it every mouth at community meeting!!!

Fridays are awesome. Know why? We don't have homework! Another thing why Fridays are so awesome (well to me I think they are awesome) we have spelling tests most kids don't like spelling test but I do! There supposed to be 15 words on the spelling test but Mrs.Neft adds  two or three more. We always do spelling tests on Fridays. Like I said I love spelling tests!

On friday the 28th we had 80's day. I dressed up as Flavor Flave with an infladable boom box on my shoulder a fake clock necklace funny green glasses and a funky hat. I had the best costume I know because I got a trophy for my class. We had a dance off I have to admet I did a split but Sean A.K.A Michal Jackson might have had me beat. In school were learning about how good character makes other family's happy and other people happy to.

We read book called Mr.Lincoln's way and in that story a boy named Eugene had a bad role model at home and Mr.Lincoln try's to help Eugene by talking about birds. this changes Eugene's feelings because he knows allot about birds. Eugene's father is not happy about this so Eugene starts to change to bad again and starts to bully kids. Mr. Lincoln stops that by bringing the spirt back and helps Eugene be nice.
At the end Eugene leads the new born ducks into the pond to swim and that's how we learned about good character.

If your in  Mrs.Nefts class she will let you do  cool thing like native Americans and if you do something good she will say give your self a token and when you don't have any more you can get a pries. And in reading you write a letter about connecting books and if you do a vary good job you can go on the thinking wall of fame and I am on it twice now and that is why Mrs.Neft is the beat teacher.

Mine was my legs my example was that without them I wouldn't be able to do a lot of things like athletic activaty.  They're hanging above my desk. Have you ever got 40 min of reading? Well in 3N  you  do! It's so fun. And this is how it works...  First you get 2 minnets to pick your books. Then you read for 20 minutes. After that you line up for lunch. Then you go to lunch.   When when you come back  you sit down and read for another 20 minnets  and 20+20=40. So i know that we read for 40 minnets.  During those 40 minutes   Mrs.Neft will take guided reading groups.  So now you know are reading schedule!

We have pictures of all of our classmates with white out above our lip and it looks like have a milk mustache.About every week we have a new got character and we write afrimations  to them on  index cards and post it up on the board.This weeks got character is Will.Eventualy everybody gets to be the got

Today in science we learned how day turns to night.We also learned that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.When the earth is facing the sun it is day but when it's not it is night.Then we learned about shadows.If the shadow is facing the sun there would not  be a shadow but if it's not there would be a shadow.Science is awesome you learn so much.With out science we would now any of this stuff

Turtle Attack! By Madison.

We have a turtle named Raffel here in 3N,  He is very cute! Everyday someone gets picked to feed Raffel and when the person gets picked they walk over to the Raffel's tank and gets five turtle treats. After they get the treats they drop them into the tank. Everybody loves Raffel!

Have you ever been swimming with your friends from school! well mattison avenue 3rd graders did on June 3rd. It was so fun! We got to eat pizza and listen to music when we were done swimming. There was a big , orange , twisty water slide and it was so fun to go down. we played fun games and while we were my mom was taking pictures of all the M.A third graders.

Letters to Mrs. Lupo

Have you ever had a big challenge that made you work harder then you like. Well 3N had a challenge when during a normal writing lesson a teacher named Mrs. D came to our class and showed us a video message saying that our school principal might cut gym because she wants us to spend more time writing, reading, and doing math. So the whole third grade started writing letters to convince her to let us have gym. We put a lot of hard work into figuring out ways to research things we can say so she can say "Yes, you can keep your gym time.". Please comment what you think about your decision.

Hi its me again A'mora i wanted to share with you about our third grade concert and yes you guys missed it but hey on the bright side you will get to come our third grade talent show! Have you ever had a concert when only third and second grade sang, well Mattison ave had one on Thursday. Third grade sang a song called hand jive and we play on the recorders. second grade sang a song in part Spanish and in part English singing 123 uno dose trace. All the parents came to the concert and the day before the kids would have an assembly and the third and second grade would sing their songs to the whole school including the teachers and principal.

Have you ever had an author come to your school well mattison does every year! this year Brian Pinkney is coming to mattison ave elementary and last year Ted Arnold came to mattison ave elementary. One day we got a Reading Log reward and we got to play outside and we got ice-cream! When Matt (my friend) went to throw his trash away, he saw 2 butterflies in the trash can!!!!! All of us were all puzzled why a beautiful creature in a dirty place like a trash can! So Mrs. Bell (the other teacher) got got both of then out of the trash can and she put then on the ground!!!! My teacher, Mrs. Neft let us hold them and they felt like little things pinching you!!!! So, Mrs. Neft took pictures and now they are on the smart board and it is the screen saver!!!!!!!!!!

Have you ever made a book that might go worldwide? Well 3N & 3B made a book filled with our essays. We made it on a website called Tik-a-Tok. All of the kids in third grade have two essays in this book that we made on Tik-a-Tok. A lot of us wrote about how the world can be a happy place even if it isn't as happy as it could be now. But most of us wrote about everyday things like playing your Nintendo DSi,or playing soccer,or even singing with your siblings. When we found out it was going to be a book we were all excited but we also thought it was a big deal!

What books do you like to read?

Well, in school, my class is reading From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. Every time we read a chapter, we have to respond on a question our teacher ask us. The main characters in it are: Claudia, Jamie and Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.



In the book, they are trying to find out who made the Angel statue. They wondered if the Angel statue was made by Michelangelo.  The whole story started out when Jamie and Claudia wanted to run away from their home. Claudia wanted to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. That is where they stayed for 1 to 3 days. They didn't want to be seen because if they were, someone will take them home and they don't want to go home. (Here is a funny part.) So Claudia wanted to get clean and there was not a tub in the museum, so they went in a fountain without their clothes on! Now they found Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler's house and they found out who made the angel statue. It was MICHELANGELO!

third grades field trip to the wissahicon watershed by:lauren donofrio

Have you ever been on a field trip to a creek before well both third grade classes at Mattison Ave went to the wissahicon watershed. We learned a bunch of stuff at the watershed, for example we learned about baby animals and how they are cared for and we also learned about different animals that live in the wissahicon watershed like muskrats, snakes, foxes, caterpillars, ducks, flying squirrels, and craw fish. Third grade saw the rapid waters and believe me they were rapid waters and the person their told us not to get close to the edge of the water or else we would fall in and get taken away by the water. Third grade also got divided into 6 groups and when we got divided into 6 groups, all the groups went on a scavenger hunt and we had to find things like muskrat holes, paw prints, a decaying log, skat, animal path ways, scratch marks on trees and bugs.

Whipping Boy Movie Time! By: Marissa

Have you ever been really excited about watching the movie of a book you read? Well, 3N, and 3B have! We watched the movie of The Whipping Boy. The movie, and book are about a prince and king, and Jemmy-the whipping boy. First, we had to read the book, witch I really enjoyed, and liked! Next, we had to read chapter, by chapter, by chapter. Then, we finished the book. After that, we got to watch the movie! But, it took a couple days. Finally, we finished the movie! I thought it was a very, very, very...good movie. The book was good, too! I hope you get the chance to read the book, or watch the movie. Or, get to have this feeling.

End Of PSSA's! By Matthew and Eric

For a long time (6 days) 3N has been working on completing the PSSA's (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment) and we are finally DONE! The PSSA's are big tests that you take in 3rd Grade and higher. For us in third grade all we had to do is Math and Reading but some people have to do it for Math Reading Science and more. As a celebration for are finish the 3rd grade got to play the Wii (Sports) together since the day we finished it snowed. If you ever have to take a big test make sure you do your best!

This blog post is on Functional Writing which is a subject we have been studying in writing. Well, really we have finished this topic in writing but I am writing about it a little late. In this writing unit 3N had to make a how-to. My how-to was on laptops HOW TO USE YOUR VERY FIRST LAPTOP BY MATTHEW. The how-to we made had to have a: -List of Materials -A body (The real how-to) -Plus some pictures that were added after we were done the typing.

READING LOGS! By: Marissa

Guess what everyone, we have Reading Logs at our school, and every time we have to bring in our Reading Logs for the end of the month the 2 third grade teachers plan a fun thing to do for everyone that made the goal (16 days.) The stuff they pick out is always fun! If we don't reach the goal we have to read while the other people do the fun activity, but it's fun reading so I don't mind. So far, a lot of kids have been reading, (pssst, that's because it is so-ooo-ooo-ooo much fun!)

Here are somethings we do at the parties we have for the READING LOGS.  We made ice-cream and we had cookies we keep reading to see what's around the corner for the next party! So, BE AWARE! My opinion on the parties are "AWESOME!"

When ever you read our posts and follow us it will appear on a Clustr Map. Since we like to find out where our blog has been we will keep track of this Clustr Map with a map of the world. When ever a new dot appears on the Map we have to get a thumb tack and tack the tack to the place or location of the city.

In 3N we have been working on learning suffix's. In the past weeks we've been learning all kinds of suffix's and this is how we learn them. Step1. The teacher displays the words we will use and the suffix's. Step2. The students come up and drag a word to the correct suffix. We will also listen to songs sometimes that go with the suffixs.




This is good for kids because it is hands on and that is how most kids learn.

As I said in Lines Of Symmetry I am here to post on 3D Shapes. 3N has been studying 3D shapes for a couple of days now. My favorite lesson on the subject of 3D is one where we had to tell the teacher what the  3D shape was that was displayed on the SMART Board.

This lesson on 3D is important because kids should know what shape is which. Imagine calling a sphere a cube!

Movie Night by Alexander

Movie Night is a thing where kids stay after school and watch a movie that the whole school voted for and you can go in your pj's and buy snacks there to eat. Trustworthiness! By: Marissa

Do you know what trustworthiness is? Have you ever had someone show trustworthiness to you? Have you ever shown trustworthiness? Is trustworthiness good, of course!? Well, everyone has had at least one of these happen to them. Well, here's another thing, Trustworthiness is something people should show a lot.

For example, to show Trustworthiness you have to be Responsible, and to gain trustworthiness you have to show that your responsible so that if someone ever asks you to do something really important for them you can say yes and they will let you. Or, if you ever ask someone to do something really important for them they will think "Oh yeah I will let him/her do that for me." Or, they will think "Oh yeah she/he is very Responsible, witch leads into Trustworthiness." then, they will probably say "Yes!"

People can see if your Responsible, Caring, or Trustworthy they can see all your character traits. It is not always easy doing something Trustworthy. Like, if your neighbor or someone you know asks you to watch I don't know their dog, and you think "Oh sure this will be easy." But, when it's actually time to watch the dog, it might go a little bit crazy.

For example, the dog might run around like crazy, and not stop. Or, the dog might knock stuff over. No matter how much you like or love the dog it will get crazy.

Lines Of Symmetry By Matthew

Hello! Its me again! Today I am here to tell you all about shapes and their lines of symmetry. In 3N we have been working on Geometry and have started symmetry. 3N has had a couple of lessons about symmetry but I would like to talk about one lesson about symmetry that I liked. As always we had three centers for math, Mrs.Neft, Moodle-Math, and Math Boxes. I liked Math Boxes best because at that station we had to write symmetrical letters with at least one line of symmetry. It was fun.

What is Respect? How can we show Respect?
That’s what I’ll talk about. First, what is Respect? Respect is listening to your parents the first time. This is better for you because otherwise they will have to yell at you.
Respect is not teasing someone. That’s very important even if someone is different you should still be friends with them and you shouldn’t judge them before you know them. Secondly, how can we show respect? Well that’s sort of the same idea as the first question. Listening to your parents, not teasing.
By showing good respect it helps you show some Responsibility. Taking care of your own things, being responsible for your actions, and then of course not teasing. To do that you need to care which leads us to caring.
So now we have Respect, Responsibility, and Caring, All very important parts of character. Respect is pretty much a 3-in-one part of character.
Now do you see the answers to these two questions? Now are you beginning to see and understand at least a little more about respect? If you weren’t before now are starting to see the MAJOR IMPORTANCE of Respect? It is a very, very, very important part of character. An Essay By Matthew

Graffiti, mean ugly! By: Marissa

Graffiti makes the world look ugly. I wonder why people feel the need to write on public places? The world is so beautiful, why would anyone want to wreck it? Do you agree?

For example, at my school we have a playground, and there is a shadier on the slide. And, all on the sidewalls and on the slide there is writing all over. Even some cuss words. It’s not very pretty inside the slide, not one bit. Plus, pretty much all of this is done by teens. I wonder what gives them the right to just write on public places? Oh, yeah, that’s right, nothing! I wonder if they think that it’s ok to do that?

This is important because, the world is so beautiful who would ever want to wreck it? And no one should have the right to just do this kind of stuff. Oh yeah I forgot, they don’t.

Winn-Dixie Wikki Space! By: Marissa & A'mora

Guess what?! 3N and 3B have a Winn-Dixie Wiki Space. So, what we do on the Wiki Space is Mrs.Neft and Mrs.Bell work together and put up question(s) for the Winn-Dixie space and then they post the question(s) then us, the kids (3B 3N) have to answer the question(s). Every time we read two new chapters we have to answer the question(s). So far we, the kids, have read 22 chapters. But, in the book there is 25 chapter we have 3 chapters to go. I don't know about you but I think it's really, really, really, really fun.

For example, the question we had to day for chapters 21 & 22 was from Mrs.Bell and she asked "Why do you think Otis was afraid to come to the party?" If your wondering who "Otis" is he is one of the people in the book "Because of Winn-Dixie" (he's also in the movie) Plus, if your wondering what the party is, it's the party that India Opal and Gloria Dump are having, and if your wondering who India Opal and Gloria Dump are they are 2 people in the book "Because of Winn-Dixie" also. And they are in the movie.

I hope you like what you here about the Winn-Dixie Wiki Space. And, hopefully from what you hear you like it and think it's as much fun as I think it is.

Responsibility by Matt

Why do people wait so long to do the what they where told? For example, my brother nick is always waiting for the last second to do something, like when my granddad asked him to mow or clean the steps or the pool he is always yelling "I'll do it later I need to go!" and goes. So my granddad gives him the money and he leaves.This makes me feels that my brother can't be responsibility.

Trustworthiness By: Eric

Why people show trustworthiness? People show trustworthiness because that way you can trust other people to watch your dog, clean the dishes or gust watch your house while your gone.  For example once I was asked to watch my dog when my dad was gone and instead of watching my dog take dog and replace it with TV , So when my dad came home he was mad at me for not watching the dog. And he said "I don't think I can trust you anymore." But I inturupted by saying " yes you can." The next day my dad gave me one more shot, Gess what I did it. If you ever come to a situwation  like me just remember you can always try to be trustworthiness.

Toturing In Third Grade By Matthew

WELCOME:In third grade we have been toturing all year but this has been the first time I have thought to blog about it. In third grade we have toturing days, first grade Tuesday, Thursday, in second, Monday, Wendsday, Friday. THE TOTURING: In the mornings we go down to Mrs. Sheilds room and get our totees from the first our second grade classrooms. Then we take them back to Mrs. Sheilds room and start toturing. First we help the totees read through they're. Then we ask them questions about the book. After that we help them read through sight words or phrases. Once we are done we play hang man until 9:00. Then we return to our classroom.

Guess what! In school we are writing ESSAYS! ( It is fun, try it!) Here is an example,  Mrs. Neft. When ever I see a smile I think of my teacher, Mrs. Neft. My Cat,
My cat likes to drink running water. For example, when ever I brush my teeth and shes in the same room my cat will jump on the toilet climb onto the sink and stick her head in the water. After that I will have to carry her out of the room and close the door. But as soon as I'm finished our cat (MysticLooks) will jump right back on the sink and drink up.
My cat loves to play also.  As soon as I step foot in the door after school shes right there to greet me. As soon as I sit down to do my homework she jumps at my brothers leg which means "Lets Play!" Then I have to play with her until she figures out that playing with a bag is funner that chasing balls. Then I can finally do my homework in peace. Last of all my cat has big eyes. When ever shes in a corner or when  ever shes in a dark place her eyes will get big, glow, and get all metallic. Or when I'm alone on the top bunk reading she will stand in the doorway and look up at me until I carry her up the ladder.

Animal Research Project Session #2

Hello, I'm back to give you all the next session on the 3N Animal Research Project. Guess what, we're making an iMovie for our project it's so cool. So far, some of us are done getting our pictures and putting them on the product iMovie. I can't wait 'till it's all finished! I bet it's going to be awesome. So, here's what we are doing in this session. Session number 2, now that we're done doing the researching we're getting pictures to make the imovie. Then, we put all the pictures on the imovie, after that we all got our reports back from our teacher Mrs.Neft. Just so we could do the stuff on the imovie with it. Here's what we did with it. We took our reports and then we recorded our voice on the imovie with the built in microphones on the laptops. Last but not least, we finished that after that then we put the pictures in order or got different pictures for the imovie. It was so much fun, I sure enjoyed it. Next, this is going to be the best part for me we're going to put sound effects on the imovie. How cool is that! I wish you were here to join the excitement.
